Good to know

  • Gift baskets ship 2-day, so they are not a same-day gift: for a date that matters, order two business days ahead or more and pick the day at checkout.
  • Add the recipient's phone number at checkout; the carrier uses it if the address needs a second look.
  • Business, hospital and campus addresses: include the department, room or mailbox so the front desk can route it.

When to ship what to Calamus

Baskets travel by parcel and can wait on a step for an afternoon, so the month decides the contents. Thirty-year averages for Calamus, month by month, with the ones that matter marked.

October in Calamus: afternoons around 64°F, nights around 39°F. Nothing in the forecast averages argues against a doorstep delivery; any basket in the catalog travels well.

Heat (July). Afternoons average 85°F or more, peaking near 85°F in July. Send chocolate, cheese and fresh fruit to a workplace or a front desk in these months; baked goods, nuts, coffee, tea and spa baskets can take a doorstep drop.

Freezing nights (January, February, March, November and December). The average low reaches 12°F in January. Jams, sauces and fresh fruit should not spend a night outside; offices, senior residences and hospitals all receive indoors.

Snow (January, February, March, November and December). About 40 inches a year on average. Allow one extra business day when the date matters: a birthday box that ships two days out still lands on time if it leaves three days out.

Wettest months (June and July). Around 5.1 and 4.6 inches of rain on average. Boxes are sealed, not waterproof: a covered porch or a workplace address keeps the packaging presentable.

Normals: NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information, 1991 to 2020, Lowden station, 10.1 miles from Calamus. Heat: average high 85°F or more. Freezing: average low 32°F or less. Snow: 2 inches or more in the month. Wettest: the two months with the most rain.
