Senior living deliveries in California

A basket ships by parcel to a street address, so it cannot go to a PO box, a graveside or a service. What it can do is reach a bedside, a resident's door, a campus mailroom or a hotel front desk, as long as the order names the person the way that place expects. Below, the kinds of places in and around California that boxes get sent to, how each one receives a parcel, and a local example laid out the way the label should read.

Senior living and nursing homes

Reception signs for the box and staff bring it through, so a weekday delivery reaches the resident faster than a Saturday one. Soft baked goods, fruit and sugar-free boxes are the usual choice.

Good to know

  • Gift baskets ship 2-day, so they are not a same-day gift: for a date that matters, order two business days ahead or more and pick the day at checkout.
  • Add the recipient's phone number at checkout; the carrier uses it if the address needs a second look.
  • Business, hospital and campus addresses: include the department, room or mailbox so the front desk can route it.

When to ship what to California

Baskets travel by parcel and can wait on a step for an afternoon, so the month decides the contents. Thirty-year averages for California, month by month, with the ones that matter marked.

October in California: afternoons around 69°F, nights around 45°F. Nothing in the forecast averages argues against a doorstep delivery; any basket in the catalog travels well.

Heat (July and August). Afternoons average 85°F or more, peaking near 87°F in July. Send chocolate, cheese and fresh fruit to a workplace or a front desk in these months; baked goods, nuts, coffee, tea and spa baskets can take a doorstep drop.

Freezing nights (January, February, March and December). The average low reaches 23°F in January. Jams, sauces and fresh fruit should not spend a night outside; offices, senior residences and hospitals all receive indoors.

Wettest months (May and March). Around 4.6 and 4.3 inches of rain on average. Boxes are sealed, not waterproof: a covered porch or a workplace address keeps the packaging presentable.

Normals: NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information, 1991 to 2020, Chilo Meldahl Locks & Dam station, 9.8 miles from California. Heat: average high 85°F or more. Freezing: average low 32°F or less. Snow: 2 inches or more in the month. Wettest: the two months with the most rain.
